The ring, designed by Lorraine Schwartz, was given to the socialite by Kris Humphries when he proposed to her on May 18, 2011. The 26 year-old forward for the New Jersey Nets popped the question at Kardashian’s home by writing “Will you marry me?” with rose pedals in her bedroom. The two started dating only six months ago after meeting in November. This will be 30 year-old Kardashian’s second marriage, as she was previously married to music producer Damon Thomas from 2000-2004. So why is Kim’s ring worth so much? O’Conner explained it has to do with the four C’s of the rock: cut, color, clarity and carat weight. “Because of the emerald cut of Kim’s ring, you know that the diamond was extremely high quality to begin with.” He went on to explain that emerald cuts have fewer but larger facets than round cuts, which can conceal flaws easier. According to US Weekly, the custom-designed ring made its debut public appearance on Kardashian’s finger when she and Humphries were catching an international flight at LAX on Wednesday, May 25.
